The top of the box has rounded edges to give this box a trunk like appearance.

The surface of the box has been scratched and oxidized adding texture and depth.

The hinge is three part. The box has a nice closure clasp that represents the sun made from 18K gold and the moon pierced out of sterling silver sheet.

This would be a perfect presentation box for a very special gift such as a wedding or engagement ring, then a life long reminder of that special day.

I burnished the whole box except for the bottom with a scribe to give it some texture and still retain a nice smooth surface, a truly unique finish.

The rock crystal quartz is an oval cabochon with a reversed carved sea shell, it measures 28 mm by 17 mm and is 22.4 carets.

The hinge is three part. The box has a nice deep blue star sapphire set in 14K bezel that functions as a clasp to keep the box tightly closed.

I do not know the origin of the sapphire it could be created in a lab or natural I just found it in a box of loose gem stones and thought it looked nice.

The rock crystal quartz is an oval cabochon that is clear with a reversed carved sea urchin, it measures 0.7 inch, (15.24 mm) by 0.5 inch (12.7 mm) and weighs 10.3 carats.

This is a natural gemstone that has been hand carved by a master gem cutter. I would love to be able to find more of these gems!

One of a kind Art Metal.

It is handcrafted of recycled sterling silver and 18 karat yellow gold.

The sterling has been oxidized to a deep black – it really shows off the gold accents.

The box is hinged on one side and the clasp is riveted (and hinged) to be like a clasp on a trunk.

You can see in the photos that I have given the box a texture that reminds me of wood and made a decorative pattern of two stripes in a different texture around the box – that adds to the “miniature, old fashioned trunk” feeling to me.

I can imagine that this box would be an amazing addition to a really cool dollhouse or to a collection of miniatures or boxes.
