Sterling silver pendant with Sugilite cabochon.
The gemstone in natural and untreated. It is a hand-cut and polished stone.
The cabochon measures 27mm X 24 mm X 16.5 mm and weighs 8.1 carats. It is triangular in shape.
This was a fun and challenging gemstone to work with.
I made a setting of sterling silver in a rectangular shape that the stone sits on. I used 18 karat yellow gold to make three loops that hold the stone and a decorative bail on the top.
The sterling silver has a matte/textured finish and the gold is shiny.
This gemstone is a real beauty – sugilite can be so beautiful! Often is it very dark but this piece is a gorgeous purple.
On the back of the pendant you can see the places where the gold loops are placed – little gold dots show through on the back.
The pendant is centered on 18 inches of sterling silver rolo chain with sterling lobster clasp closure. It is made in such a way that the pendant stays centered when you are wearing it.
Sleek, modern and one of a kind.
